Come Back Home “Welcome Mass”
Sunday, May 20, 2018 – 10:00 AM
Saint Martin De Porres / Saint Columba
Welcome back to Swampoodle and see the parish of your Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation and maybe even a wedding or two. In 1993, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia changed the name of Saint Columba Parish to Saint Martin De Porres when it closed St. Elizabeth, Most Precious Blood & Corpus Christi. In many cases, Swampoodle and Saint Columba were the starting point of many immigrants as they found a new home, a new country and a new parish.
On May 20th, the Pastor, Rev. Stephen Thorne, the Sisters of Saint Joseph, who teach and run the school, the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, who minister to the parish and community along with the members of the parish, would like to invite you to join us in prayer at Mass. How many of you were taught by the Sisters of Saint Joseph or visited the motherhouse of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament?
Saint Martin De Porres Parish is celebrating its 25th Jubilee year and as part of the celebration, we are reaching out to parishioners, both to current members and to those who laid the foundation for a thriving spiritual community, to join us.
The good news that our church in North Philadelphia is not only open but home to hundreds of Catholics is something that needs to be shared. We hope you can come join us to tell old and new stories.
St. Martin de Porres Parish is a vibrant faith community. We honor our past and evangelize our present, as we prepare for a sprit-filled future.
We look forward to you worshipping with us on Sunday May 20th.
