On a Spiritual Note…
Today’s readings are full of enthusiasm that all peoples, from everywhere on earth, are welcome in God’s Kingdom, and will worship the Lord. Even though the Israelites are the Chosen People, the arrival of the Wise Men from the east shows that Gentiles will pay homage to Jesus, and salvation is for everyone.
Of course, we are used to hearing that Jesus is for everyone, for every race, nation and group of people on earth. But this message is especially important today, when the world is so torn apart. Not only are there divisions among people, but they are often based on ideas of religion, and they are often violent. Today the Middle East is a war zone, and there are ideas of God being used to fire up hostility, hatred, revenge.
Jesus, as we sang at Christmas, is the Prince of Peace; Jesus is the Savior of the World, Jesus is the Word of God. We all need him, we need his message, we need his help. Now.
We pray and look forward to the day when, as today’s responsorial psalm says, “Lord, every nation on earth will adore you.”
We offer prayers and sympathy to the family of Sarah Burton, who passed away on Sunday, Dec. 28. May she rest in peace.

Prayer for the World Meeting of Families
God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior, you have made us your sons and daughters in the family of the Church.
May your grace and love help our families in every part of the world be united to one another in fidelity to the Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your Holy Spirit, guide all families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer and to always seek your truth and live in your love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!
